Suicide Prevention Services
As Hong Kong grapples with an alarming rise in student suicides, the William S.D. Louey Educational Foundation partnered with Suicide Prevention Services (SPS) Hong Kong to launch an urgent and impactful initiative aimed at supporting student mental health.
Recent data from the Education Bureau reveals that over the past five years, 131 student suicides have been recorded among primary and secondary school students, most of them aged 12 and above. Academic pressure, negative interpersonal relationships, and poor mental health are the leading contributing factors. Tragically, this crisis has a pronounced effect on young men, who globally account for 70% of suicide cases, according to psychiatric studies.
In response, the William S.D. Educational Foundation launched the “Breaking the Silence” campaign, a video series designed to speak directly to young people, especially boys and men aged 15–25 who are silently struggling with anxiety, stress, and depression.
Supporting Hong Kong's Youth
Created in partnership with SPS, Breaking the Silence is a bilingual (English and Cantonese) YouTube series that features leading voices from Hong Kong’s mental health and youth advocacy communities. Each episode tackles anonymised questions submitted by students, answered candidly by experts and influencers who share both professional insights and personal stories.
